Virginia E. Smith, fondly known as Jinny, 102, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, at Rosedale Green in Erlanger, Kentucky. She was born a twin on October 8, 1921, in Covington to her loving parents. With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to an extraordinary woman who dedicated her life to education and touched the hearts of countless individuals.

Jinny's passion for teaching knew no bounds. She embarked on a remarkable career as a Teacher and Principal with the Benedictine Order where she was known as Sister Mary John, OSB. Her unwavering commitment to shaping young minds left an indelible mark on the education system. From fostering creativity to instilling values of compassion and empathy, Jinny was a pillar of strength within the academic community.

Outside the classroom, Jinny had an adventurous spirit that led her to achieve remarkable feats. Notably, at the age of 32, she astounded everyone by kicking a field goal at the University of Notre Dame. Her determination and resilience were truly inspiring.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jinny had a deep love for animals. Dogs and horses held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her compassion extended beyond humans; she possessed a genuine affection for creatures both big and small.

Jinny's impact reached far beyond her career and hobbies. Her kindness and warmth were felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She fostered lasting friendships throughout her life journey.

She is preceded in death by her twin sister Dorothy "Dottie" Snyder and brother Frank Smith.

Jinny is survived by her beloved nephews Bill (Barb) Snyder of Erlanger and David (Sue) Snyder of Daniel Island, SC.
