In Loving Memory: Steven Reed Gailar
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Steven Reed Gailar, 79, a longtime resident of Pawleys Island, SC. Steve was a man of remarkable integrity, a brilliant mind, and a dry wit that stayed with him to the end.
A proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War (1969–1970) and a graduate of both Indiana and Purdue Universities, Steve had a distinguished career in the biotechnology industry. Throughout his life, he was an avid, self-taught golfer. Friends will remember him as a fierce competitor on the course who never lost the kindness and fair play that defined his character.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Kimberly Monaco (Michael Shebelske) and Todd Gailar (Amanda Hayes); and his sister, Jeanna Francis.
"Grandpa Steve" will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Amy, Joseph, Sara, Quinn, and Norah. He also leaves behind a cherished circle of nieces, nephews, and "bonus" grandchildren whom he loved as his own, along with his faithful Goldendoodle and constant companion, Zuzu.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Ruth Gailar.
Family services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Save The Animals Foundation (staf.org) or your favorite charity.
