Richard "Dick" W. Himmler, 80, of Park Hills, Kentucky, affectionately known as "Pappy," passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 26, 1945, in Frederick, Oklahoma, Dick led a life marked by dedication, love, and commitment to those he cherished.
Dick's professional journey spanned his entire career in the logistics industry, culminating in his role as Operations Manager for RAM Nationwide. In his retirement, he enjoyed working at Harper Construction, proudly wearing his hard hat with the title of Chief. His work ethic and leadership were notable, reflecting his ability to navigate the complexities of the logistics world with skill and determination.
A proud veteran and following in his father's footsteps, Dick served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, showing bravery and commitment to his country. His service experience became a cornerstone of his identity and helped shape the values he instilled in his family.
Family was at the heart of Dick's life. He was married to his wife for 55 years, Sherry (Edelbroich) Himmler. Dick was a devoted father to his daughters: Candace (Todd) Bonta, Dr. Meredith Donnelly, and Eliz (Joel) Frederic. Of all his roles in life, being Pappy to his 6 grandchildren was the one he cherished most - Nick and Nolan Bonta, Paige and Jack Donnelly and Amelia and Alex Frederic. He delighted in every moment he spent with them, whether driving carpools, assisting with homework, or playing games that fostered their imaginations and strengthened their bonds.
In addition to his family commitments, Dick was a man of many interests. He loved to golf, play blackjack, dance to anything by Hall and Oates or Michael Jackson and spend time at the lake fishing with his family, often accompanied by his dry humor and playful jabs that kept everyone laughing. These hobbies provided him with passion and relaxation, allowing him to enjoy life to the fullest.
Dick was a proud alumni of Dixie Heights High School, graduating in 1963, where he excelled as the quarterback of the football team, showcasing his competitive spirit and teamwork.
He is also survived by his brother, John (Sue) Himmler, and sisters, Christie (Larry) Jones and JoAnn (Guy) Witte, who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Himmler and Nancy Brinkman.
Visitation and a Catholic Blessing will be determined at a future date at St. John's the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 627 West Pike Street, Covington, Kentucky 41011.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame Academy Annual Fund, whose mission of educating young women shaped the lives of his wife, daughters, and granddaughters.
As the family gathers to remember Dick’s life, they will carry forward his legacy of love, commitment, and unwavering support. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly.
