Richard "Joe" Joseph Ehlman, Jr., 87, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on March 10, 1938, in Covington, Kentucky, Joe's life was marked by dedication, humor, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew him.

For 37 years, Joe thrived as an appliance repairman at Central Service, where his technical expertise was only rivaled by his warm personality. He was a graduate of technical school for appliance repair, but it was his self-taught skills that made him the go-to fixer of everything for his family and friends. His service extended beyond technical know-how; he proudly served in the United States Navy for six years as a Petty Officer Fireman, reflecting his commitment to duty and service.

Family was at the heart of Joe's life. He cherished creating unforgettable memories, particularly through the joy of cooking. He loved making breakfast for his grandchildren and took great pride in being the self-appointed grill master, known for grilling everything well done. His great sense of humor and goofball personality endeared him to everyone, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and joy.

Joe was an avid fisherman and loved golfing, pursuits that brought him immense happiness. His commitment to his community was evident through his active participation in the Holy Name Society at St. Pius X Church, where he enjoyed helping fry chicken at local festivals, lending his talents and time to support causes close to his heart.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Darpel, along with his children: Richard "Rick" Joseph (Dwana) Ehlman III, Sandy Rose Ehlman, and Lynn Marie (Pat) Ehlman Timmerding and son in law, Tim Curl. His legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, who will forever hold cherished memories of their time with their devoted grandfather.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Joseph Ehlman and Rose Ehlman, his daughter, Regina Ehlman Curl, his granddaughter Erica Ehlman, and his siblings, Jim Ehlman and Peg Kordenbrock. Each of these individuals played a significant role in shaping the man he became, and they are lovingly remembered by those who survive him.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 11:00AM in St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Pike, Edgewood, KY 41017.

Inurnment will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00AM in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, Williamstown, KY.
