Raymond A. Scheller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born on December 2, 1929, in Bellview, Kentucky, Ray grew up with a deep sense of responsibility, compassion, and faith. After the death of his father, Ray stepped up at a young age to support his family—a sign of the strength of character and selflessness that would define his life.
Ray was educated at Sacred Heart Elementary, Elder High School, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. He proudly served his country in the 11th Armored Cavalry Medical Detachment, stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and Fort Knox.
After his military service, Ray worked as a pharmacist in Hamilton, Ohio, before settling in Villa Hills, where he and his wife, Joyce, built a beautiful life together. Ray owned and operated his own pharmacy in Bromley for five years, later working at St. Luke Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital until his retirement. Throughout his career, Ray was not just a pharmacist—he was a trusted, compassionate caregiver who always had a kind word and a listening ear for everyone who walked through the door.
On April 7, 1955, Ray married the love of his life, Joyce Decker Scheller. This past April, they celebrated 70 incredible years of marriage—a rare and beautiful testament to enduring love and commitment.
Ray was also a loving brother to Kay Colon, and a cherished member of a close-knit extended family.
Ray and Joyce made their home in Villa Hills for over 60 years and were devoted parishioners of St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs. Ray’s faith was central to his life, guiding his values and the loving way he treated others.
Ray was a man of many passions and an unshakable sense of humor. He had a joyful spirit—fun, silly, understanding, and deeply empathetic. He never met a stranger and had the rare gift of making everyone feel seen and valued. He loved his family fiercely and was most content when surrounded by his children and grandchildren, whether attending their events, coaching Ken’s Tresler Comets baseball team, or sharing beer and a burger from the grill.
A lifelong sports fan, Ray cheered faithfully for UC, UK, the Reds, Bengals, and especially his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish—“GO IRISH!” Retirement didn’t slow him down. Ever the learner, he took up piano lessons, computer and cooking classes, and even earned a real estate license.
Ray leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, service, and faith. He showed what it means to live a life of purpose, to be kind without condition, and to always put family first.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him, but his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 10:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM all in St. Joseph's Church, 2470 Lorraine Ct, Crescent Springs, KY 41017. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ray’s memory to Elder High School.
Rest easy, Ray. Thank you for the laughter, the love, and a life so beautifully lived.
