James E. Stewart, 91, of Miamisburg, OH, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the Hospice of Dayton. Born on December 30, 1933, in Ludlow, Kentucky, James led a life marked by professional achievement and unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

James enjoyed a successful career as the self-employed owner of Stewart and Hutchinson Accounting Firm in Dayton, Ohio.  His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his work led him to substantial success in the field. After selling his business, he continued to contribute to his profession by working as a Financial Auditor at the International Trade Commission in Washington D.C. where he was known for his keen insight and professionalism.

James's academic accomplishments included earning a master's degree from Xavier University reflecting his dedication to lifelong learning and excellence and was an Adjunt Professor at Wright State University. His expertise in accounting not only served his clients well but also laid the foundation for his reputation as a trusted advisor in financial matters with the Congressional Trade Committees under several administrations.  

In addition to his professional life, James proudly served in the United States Air Force during Korea where he exemplified the values of duty and service to his country. His time in the military shaped his character and instilled a sense of discipline that carried through into all areas of his life.

James was a loving father to his sons, Doug Stewart, John Stewart and James J. Stewart who carry forward his legacy. He is remembered fondly by his family including 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and friends and colleagues for his warmth, unique humor, and the profound love he had for those closest to him. His familial bonds were strong, even as he mourned the loss of his beloved wife, Janet R. Stewart.  He also held close the memories proceeded by his brother, John “Jack” Stewart and his parents, John Stewart and Evelyn Stewart, who provided a nurturing foundation during his formative years.

Services are private to the convenience of the family.

As we remember James E. Stewart, we celebrate a life well-lived to the many places he travelled around the world with his wife and through his work, filled with accomplishments, devotion to family, and a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will remain a guiding force in the lives of his sons and the wider community he leaves behind.
