Harold "Jay" Brewer, a loyal member of the Ludlow community, has passed away on December 17, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born in Covington, Kentucky on July 19, 1941, to his loving parents John and Cecelia Brewer. Jay led an extraordinary life filled with service, education, and a deep commitment to his community. After graduating from Covington Catholic High School, he bravely entered the military and served our country in the United States Army. His dedication and sacrifice during his time in the armed forces will always be remembered and cherished. Following his military service, Jay returned home and began working for First National Bank. However, his true passion lay in education. He pursued his love for teaching by becoming a history teacher at Ludlow Independent Schools, where he dedicated 19 years of his life to shaping young minds. His impact extended beyond the classroom as he also coached girls' and boys' basketball, baseball, track, and youth football at Ludlow Schools. In addition to this, he coached baseball and freshman boys' basketball for Pendleton County Schools. In retirement, Jay enjoyed being a ticket taker for the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, The Aronoff and the Cincinnati Gardens.
As an avid runner, Jay completed multiple half marathons throughout his life. His dedication to health and fitness inspired those around him and served as a testament to his determined spirit. He truly embodied what it meant to persevere and reach for new goals.
Outside of his professional life, Jay cherished the time he spent exploring the world. Traveling brought him immense joy, particularly when he could immerse himself in the culture and history of different regions. Some of his favorite areas to visit included the Eastern region of the United States as well as Western Europe. These experiences allowed him to cultivate his love of history and create lifelong memories.
Jay was the last elected Judge for the City of Ludlow. He was also recognized as a Kentucky Colonel, a title bestowed upon individuals who demonstrate outstanding service to their community and state. This honor was a reflection of his dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those around him.
Jay is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Brewer (10/29/2021).
Survivors include his sons; Dennis Brewer of Covington, Jay (Sally) Brewer of Ft Thomas, Todd (Meredith) Brewer of Burlington; daughters, Kathy (Randy) Cloud of Ludlow, Carrie (Kyle) Holloway of Union, and Amanda Brewer of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Annalee Brewer, Keegan Brewer, Emmarie Brewer, Will Brewer, Elizabeth Brewer, Keaton Holloway, and Kylie Holloway. Jay found great joy in being involved in their lives and supporting their various interests.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to the hour of service at 12:00, noon, all at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm St, Ludlow, KY 41016.
Interment with Military Honors will be in St Mary's Cemetery, 2201 Dixie Highway, Ft Mitchell, KY 41017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Betsy's Boutique, c/o Ludlow Board of Education, 525 Elm Street, Ludlow, KY 41016. This is a meaningful way to honor Harold's memory and continue his legacy of service.
