Gerald “Jerry” Whistler Helm, Jr., 75, of Newport, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.
Jerry was employed as a sound engineer with IATSE Cincinnati Stagehands Local 5 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His work reflected a steady and meaningful part of his life, and he was proud to be part of that community for many years.
To those who knew him best, Jerry was the best brother, favorite uncle, and a “mad genius,” and someone who brought his own spirit and personality to every room. He enjoyed fishing and was especially looking forward to a trip out west to fish with his sister, a plan that speaks to the closeness he shared with his family and the simple joys he treasured.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Julie (Raymond) Leach of Hodgens, OK and by his nieces, Lydia MacKenzie of Chicago, IL and Tracy Turner-Hillbish of Tampa, FL; dear friends Nancy Smith of Southgate; Mike Murphy of Cold Springs, Kenny Johnson of Taylor Mill, and Tom "Woody" Woods of HighlandHeights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Elverta Helm; and his sister, Mary Helm.
Services are private for the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic, 5619 Orlando Pl, Cincinnati, OH 45227.
