Donald J. Jones, born April 21, 1939, in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky. He was a devoted family man and a respected member of his community, remembered with great affection and admiration by those who knew him.
Donald proudly served in the United States Navy, dedicating himself to his country with honor. After his military service, he built a distinguished career as a machinist and retired from The Kroger Company. Beyond his professional achievements, Donald was deeply committed to his family, which he considered his proudest accomplishment.
He was a faithful member of the Colonel Clay Lodge #159, F & A.M., reflecting his lifelong dedication to fraternity and service. Donald's vibrant personality shone through his numerous friendships, and he was universally regarded as an all-around great guy.
Donald found joy in many pursuits; he loved spending time outdoors, admiring wildlife, and nature. Gardening and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, and he cherished the hours spent at his camp with family. Music was also close to his heart, and he enjoyed playing the guitar. Alongside his wife of 67 years, Linda Jones, Donald shared a passion for dance, particularly the jitterbug, a pursuit that brought them many moments of happiness and even competitive success.
Donald’s love extended to his cherished pets, his dog Peaches and his cat Boots, who were considered members of the family. His warm spirit and dedication to those around him left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Jones; daughters Robin (Steve) Webb, Patty Jones, Selina (Steve) McDine, and Donna (Jamie) Penny; grandchildren Travis (Julie) Stewart, Amber (Dustin Ritchie) Newman, Stephanie (Cory) Hollingsworth, Steven (Brittany) McDine, Christopher Penny, and Taylor Penny; as well as nine great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter expected in July. Donald also leaves behind his brother Ralph (Connie) Jones.
Donald was preceded in death by his sisters Rita Painter, Eileen Snelling, and Ann Smith.
The visitation will be on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 12:00 noon, all in Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm Street, Ludlow, Kentucky 41016. A Masonic Lodge service will be conducted by members of Colonel Clay Lodge #159, F & A.M., following the visitation at 11:40 AM.
Interment in Highland Cemetery, Ft Mitchell, with Military Honors.
