Brenda J. McMillen

Brenda Joyce McMillen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 11, 1947, in Clay County, Kentucky, Brenda’s steadfast warmth, generous heart, and ever-present smile brightened the lives of all who knew her. Brenda had a loving, kindhearted spirit that came to define her life. She graduated from Holmes High School and soon after married Clark, the love of her life. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, laughter, and love.

Brenda found deep joy and pride in being the heart and home of her family, dedicating herself fully to raising her children and creating a place where family always mattered most. Her devotion was unwavering, and her love knew no bounds. Later, she continued her legacy of caring for others as a teacher’s aide at Ludlow High School, where she gently shaped young lives with encouragement, patience, and a kind word. With her ever-cheerful demeanor, she also served as the LHS JV and Varsity Cheerleading sponsor.

Brenda’s faith was an enduring guidepost throughout her life. She was a cherished member of First Baptist Church in Ludlow for many years, where her grace, warmth, and kindness touched both friends and fellow members of the congregation. 

She also had a heart for adventure. Brenda and Clark traveled the world together, making memories in London, Paris, the South of France, Sweden, and throughout the United States. But perhaps no destination held quite the same magic for Brenda as Disney World. She loved the wonder of it all- the lights, the music, the characters, the castle, and the feeling that around every corner, a little bit of magic might be waiting.

She especially loved strolling along Main Street, taking in the sights and sounds, and making memories with the people she loved. Disney was more than a destination for Brenda; it was a place where her playful spirit could shine. And if there was a little Tinker Bell magic in the air, a familiar Mickey Mouse smile nearby, or perhaps even a nod to Jack Sparrow along the way, Brenda was ready to enjoy every moment of it. She treasured time at the beach, soaking up the sun and the company of dear loved ones. Shopping excursions and family gatherings brought her endless happiness, and afternoons spent at Value City or TJ Maxx with family were among her favorite things. For Brenda, the destination was often secondary to the company. What mattered most was being together.

To those who knew her, Brenda exemplified loving resilience and gentle joy. She greeted friends and family with big hugs and cheek kisses, and she had a great big love- and a wonderfully quirky sense of humor- that made her unmistakably Brenda, lovingly known to many as “Big Red”.

More than anything, she was proud of the family she and Clark nurtured together. She was devoted to her children and deeply invested in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandson. She celebrated their joys, supported them through their challenges, and loved them simply because they were hers.

Brenda is survived by her cherished daughter, Stephanie (Brian) Beutel of Falmouth; her daughter-in-law, Meredith McMillen (Darrin, deceased) of Park Hills; grandchildren Johnathon (Emily) Beutel, Allie Beutel, Emersyn McMillen, and Delaney McMillen; and her great-grandson, Brooks. 

She now reunites in peace with those who preceded her in death: her devoted husband, Clark McMillen; her dear son, Darrin McMillen; and her loving parents, Peter and Maude Bowling.

Perhaps beyond this life, Heaven is a place where the sun is always shining, the music is playing, and Main Street is waiting. Maybe Cinderella’s Castle is glowing in the distance, Tinker Bell is sprinkling a little pixie dust, and someone has already saved Brenda a seat. And knowing Brenda, she has probably found the best shopping and the warmest spot on the beach.

Her next adventure has begun.

Friends and family are invited to honor Brenda’s memory at visitation on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 400 Linden St., Ludlow, KY 41016. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Hwy, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017.

Brenda McMillen’s legacy of love, faith, family, laughter, and kindness will live on through the people she loved and the many lives she touched. Her hugs, her cheek kisses, her humor, her smile, and her unmistakable way of making ordinary moments feel special will be deeply missed.
