Betty Lou Knipfer, 87, of Ludlow, a cherished Registered Nurse and devoted community member, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Born in the quaint town of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and creativity that touched all who knew her.
Betty Lou served with heart and skill at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where her gentle care and steadfast commitment made a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues. Beyond her professional life, she was a woman of many passions. She had a profound love for gardening and flowers, which led her to create the Ludlow Garden Club, a testament to her desire to cultivate beauty and community wherever she went. Her crafty nature flourished in her love of creating, as she delighted in various crafts that expressed her artistic spirit and brought joy to those around her.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 67 wonderful years, James Knipfer of Ludlow; children: Donna (Ed) Moore of Fort Wright, Vickie (Bill) Schultz of Union, Dorothy Pugh of Cincinnati, Mark (Lisa) Knipfer of Florence, and James (Lek) Knipfer of Tokyo, Japan. Her legacy continues through 11 cherished grandchildren and 9 beloved great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by siblings: brothers John, Vergil, and Jim Slayback, and sister Mary Frances Connely.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 10:00AM until the hour of Service at 12:00PM all in Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm Street, Ludlow, Kentucky.
Interment in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Through her devotion to her family, her vocation as a nurse, and her passion for gardening and crafts, Betty Lou Knipfer leaves behind a tender legacy of love and beauty. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
