Juanita Luken

Juanita Luken, of Lakeside Park, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Villaspring of Erlanger.  She was the loving wife of late husband, Robert C. Luken.  Survivors include her son, Robert D. (Diana) Luken of Merritt Island, FL; granddaughters, Barbra and Debra Luken of Ocoee, FL.  Juanita had an extraordinarily full and active life.  Born in West Somerset, KY.

Her mother died when she was very young.  She grew up and helped her dad in his grocery store.  Graduated for high school and attended the University of Kentucky.  Her dad taught her to fish, hunt, enjoy and respect the great outdoors.  She loved her dad.  She learned to ride horses on her grandfather’s farm.  Juanita and Bob were married in 1942 at St. Ann’s Church in West Covington, and had forty two wonderful years together.  They were inseparable.  They built a beautiful cottage on Williamstown Lake and spent many happy years there.  She worked for Globe Tailoring for thirty one years.  During WWII she was employed at Wright Aeronautical, Evansville and William Northern Field Airbase in Tennessee where she worked until her son was born and Bob was shipped overseas from 1942 – 1946.  He died in 1984.  She worked for Witterstatters Florist in Price Hill, and Swan Florist in Erlanger.  Juanita was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and many organizations for which she held offices including Hamilton Leisure Timers, Ludlow Seniors, West Covington Seniors, St. Johns Ladies Aide, St. Agnes W.O.W., American Airline CVG – Vanguards Retirees, YWCA, Birthday and Card Club.  Juanita loved to travel.  She has been to all 50 states and 21 countries and has collected many thimbles and people, these are her best friends who she kept in touch with.  She made friends wherever she went, never forgetting birthdays or a phone call to someone ill.  Juanita was an avid viewer of NASCAR, Indy 500 and Kentucky Derby.  She volunteered as a PTA cookie mom and for the Parish Kitchen, B-Con, church socials, fish fries, Erlanger library and many other things.  She had an indomitable spirit and a huge heart.

Mass of Christian Burial is on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 2415 Dixie Highway, Ft. Mitchell, KY.

Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY.
