Frank Sommerkamp, Jr., 93, of Crestview Hills, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Emerald Trace in Elsmere. He received his master’s degree from Xavier University and went on to retire as Vice President of Government Affairs for Cincinnati Bell. Frank was very active in the community, serving as chairman for various organizations including: Thomas More College Board of Trustees, Greater Cincinnati Convention Visitors Board, Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Director, Covington Rotary Club, Act for Covington (CBC), St. Pius X School Board of Directors and Forward Quest Board of Directors. He also served on Crestview Hills City Council, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Board of Directors, Greater Cincinnati United Way Board of Directors, Tri-County Economic Development Board of Directors and St. Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. He and his wife, Pat, were the recipients of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation Development Award - The Devou Cup in 2014. Frank was in the NKY Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of St. Pius X Church, Summit Hills Country Club and 5 Seasons Family Sports Club.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Patricia Sommerkamp of Crestview Hills; son, Dr. Greg Sommerkamp and wife Abby of Edgewood; daughters, Daria Nantista of Crestview Hills, Tara Santry and husband Rick of Allendale, NJ; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sommerkamp, Sr. and Laura Nienaber Sommerkamp; brothers, Paul and Bill Sommerkamp, and sister, Esther Averdick.
Visitation is on Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM all in St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Rd, Edgewood, KY 41017.
Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Thomas More University, to Sommerkamp Family Scholarship Fund, 333 Thomas More Pkwy, Crestview Hills, KY 41017 or Faith Community Pharmacy, 7033 Burlington Pike #4, Florence, KY 41042.
