Betty Maley

 

 

 

Betty Maley, 84, of Erlanger, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. She was a member of the Northern Kentucky Seniors Club, St. Henry=s Boosters and St. Henry Church.  Betty was very active in all of her children=s activities 

She is preceded in death by her Husband, Ralph C. Maley, her parents Roy and Opel Raabe, brothers, Tom and Bill Raabe and her sister Mary Rose (Peaches) Mahoney.

 

Survivors include her sons, Tom Maley of Union, and Mike Maley of Independence, KY; sisters, Dorothy Huning and JoAnne Kern, and her grandchildren (7) Nicole, Neil, Angele, Charlie, Peter, Casey and John; and (8) eight great grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 9:30AM to the hour of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM all at St. Henry Church in Erlanger, Kentucky.

 

Internment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Erlanger, Kentucky

Bernard "Buck" Kathman

 

 

  

Bernard ABuck@ Kathman, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at his residence in Kenton Hills,Kentucky.He was the third generationowner and operator of the family business Kathman Shoe Repair inCincinnati, Ohio.

Buck was also a Kentucky Colonel. 

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Kathman and brother, Stephen Kathman.

Helen M. Lewis

 

Helen M. Lewis, 94, of Independence, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at Woodcrest Manor Care Center in Erlanger.  Helen was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bromley where she was a member of the Women’s Guild.  She also was a member of the Bromley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. 

 

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Lewis; son, Edward W. Lewis (12/14/13); and brother, Roy Beil. 

 

Survivors include her son Robert “Bob” (Cheryl) Lewis of Independence; daughter, Peggy (Jim) Ernest of Florence; daughter-in-law, Jayne Lewis of Erlanger; brother, Earl Beil of Villa Hills; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Cecil Dickey

 

 

Cecil Dickey, 71, of Edgewood, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He was an Electrician with IBEW Local #212.  Cecil was a member of IBEW Local #212, collected antique cars, loved to fish and was a prankster.   

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruth Dickey and brother, Ronald Dickey.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie Dickey of Edgewood, daughters, Suzi (Drew) Kahler of Fortson, GA, Jerri Dickey of Edgewood, Chris (Steve) Menkhaus of Edgewood, Michelle Schildmeyer of Florence; grandchildren, Richard Freimuth, William Menkhaus, Michael Menkhaus and Courtney Leighton; great-grandson, Michael Martin.

James "Jim" Messer

 

  

James “Jim” Messer, 79, of Ft.Wright, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice of Edgewood.  He was the owner of END Grain Marketing Company.  Jim served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Ludlow Vets, the National Grain and Feed Association, Ohio Agribusiness Association and the National Rifle Association.  He was very active at LudlowHigh School and was past treasurer for Ludlow Athletic Boosters.  Jim was a kind-hearted man that touched many lives. 

 

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva Gray and Naomi Messer; grandchildren, Adam Gifford and Justin Messer. 

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara “Barb” Messer of Ft. Wright; sons, Jim (Tammy) Messer of Erlanger, Gary (Susan) Miller of Lakeside Park, Danny (Shelly) Miller of Ft. Wright, Mark Messer of Latonia; daughter, Kim Gifford of Ludlow; brothers, Raymond (JoAnn) Messer of Bellevue, Donald (Flo) Messer of Jacksboro, TN; sisters, Shirley (Bill) Whalen of Kettering, OH, Jesse (Maynard) Davidson of Jacksboro, TN; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

James L. Meier

 

 

James L. Meier, 73, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas.  He was a retired mechanic with CG& E in Cincinnati.  James loved sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds and horse racing. 

 

James is preceded in death by his son, Gregory Meier; brother, Daniel Meier and sister, Peggy Meier.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Brock of Erlanger; son, James “Jim” Meier of Florence; brothers, Larry (Terri) Meier of Elsmere; sister, Nancy Meier of Florence; grandchildren, Courtney, Melissa, Daniel, Dylan, and Tosha; 2 great-grandchildren.

Wanda Lou Griffith

 

 

 

Wanda “Wendy” L. Griffith, 76 of Ludlow, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.  She was a Retired Assembler for American Sign.    Wendy had a charismatic personality who loved to socialize and be with people.  She loved spending time with her family.

 

Wendy is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Alice Wardell; brothers, Ronald and Dallas Wardell, and sister, Wilma Traft. 

 

Survivors include her brother, Billie Waddell of Union and many nieces and nephews.

Alisa Brewster

 

 

Alisa L. Brewster, 82, of Crittenden, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at St.ElizabethHospital in Edgewood.  She retired from the Beneficial Insurance Company. Alisa was a member of Violet Ridge Church of Christ in Crittenden.  She was the past President of Grant County and Crittenden Homemakers.  Alisa loved spending time with her kids and at church. 

 

She was preceded in death by her brothers, BJ Robertson, Robby Robertson and sister, Thelma Farmer.  Survivors include her devoted husband, John E. Brewster of Crittenden; sons, Andrew and Nicholas Arnett of Crittenden; daughter, Melissa Brewster (Estell Hatter) of Crittenden; sister, Margaret Troxel of Elsmere; niece, Donna Fischesser of Florence; best friend, Pat Abeling of Crittenden; grandchildren: Johnathan, Wayne, Maggie, Mason, Emily, Olivia, Addison, Kiara and Little T.

David Joseph Todtenbier

 

 

David Joseph Todtenbier, 56, of Ft. Wright, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 28, 2014. He worked for Duke Energy for 34 years as a Support Repairman. David was a member of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright. He was able to fix anything, from cars, to plumbing, to his mother’s hair. He loved woodworking and was able to make anything and everything. David loved nature and being outdoors. He especially loved the family trips to the Smokies and his time in Shaker Village, hiking, whittling, and spending time with his beloved wife. David would do anything for anyone and did everything for his family, whom he loved so much, without ever asking anything in return.

 

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Todtenbier (1969), Georgie Todtenbier (1953) and his father, George Todtenbier (2004). 

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Diana Holtkamp Todtenbier of Ft. Wright; daughters, Therese and Beth Todtenbier of Ft. Wright; and mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Todtenbier of Ft. Wright.

Otis Moore

 

 

Otis Moore, 73 of Ludlow, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He was a Head Custodian at Lloyd High School in Erlanger where he worked for 18 years and was loved by all.  When retiring from the Erlanger-Elsmere School System, the city honored Otis with a Key to the City of Erlanger and declared May 20th the “Otis Moore Holiday.”  Otis was a member of the First Baptist of Ludlow.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brack and Dovia Moore; brothers, Donald Moore, Bob Moore, Art Moore; and sister, Lou Beck.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Madeline Moore of Ludlow; daughters, Connie (Anthony) Couffer of Ludlow, Robin (Charles Webster) Radford of Ludlow; sons, Donald (Angelia) Moore of Taylor Mill, James (Sookie) Wynn of Independence; brothers, Clifford (Randi) Moore of Latonia, Dave (Brenda) Moore of Latonia; sisters, Ruth (Howard) Hafer of Batavia, Kathy (Sam) Turner of Crittenden, Shirley Pennington of Covington; grandchildren, Connie Radford of Ludlow, Brack Webster of Ludlow, Danielle Moore of Ludlow, Anthony Radford, Jr. of Ludlow; adopted grandchildren, Donnie, Kristen, and Jordan Scheid of Ludlow and Brittany and Dustin Juillfs of Ludlow.

Alan J. Sefakis

 

 

Alan J. Sefakis, 59, of Ludlow, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He was a retired Reservationist for American Airlines.  Alan was a former member of Sts. Boniface & James Church in Ludlow.  He was a real jokester who loved to travel and fish and watch Andy Griffith and Perry Mason.  Alan was preceded in death by his brothers, John, George and Mark Sefakis. 

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Debbie Sefakis of Ludlow; son, Sammy Sefakis of Ludlow and Godchildren, William, Breanna and Adrenna.

John W. Moore

 

 

John W. Moore, 83, of Bromley, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at BridgePointCenter in Florence.  He was a retired Upholsterer for Artistic Furniture Company in Cincinnati.  John loved his family and baseball and was a member of the Bromley Vets. 

 

Survivors include his loving wife Audrey Moore (nee Due) of Bromley; sons, John Moore of Covington, Greg Moore of Ft. Wright, Aaron Moore of Erlanger, Brian (Pam) Moore of Crescent Springs; daughter, Kimberly Moore of Bromley; sister, Sylvia Searp of Bromley; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Robert "Keith" Penny

 

 

Robert Keith Penny, 48, of Erlanger, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at University Hospital in Cincinnati.  He was an employee of the Kroger Company for 33 years.  Keith loved music and was a proud father. 

 

He is survived by his son, Justin Penny of Ft. Mitchell; mother, Brenda Penny of Florence; brothers, Kirk Penny of Edgewood, Frank and Earl Penny both of Sewell, AL, Philip Penny of Cincinnati; sisters, Karla Whitaker of Independence, Karmen Penny of Albuquerque, NM, Kari Kendall of Independence and 14 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Penny and brother, Kevin Penny.

Marian Frances Bresser

 

 

Marian Frances Bresser, 84, Covington, KY, passed away on February 17, 2014 at her residence.  She was retired from Cincinnati Bell where she worked for 30 years.  Marian was a very active member of St. Augustine Church in Covington, a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and spent her life caring for others.

 

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Bresser (2012). 

 

Marian is survived by her nephews, Ron (Donna) Bresser of Edgewood; John “Jack” (Diane) Bresser, Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL and many great nieces and nephews.

Margaret "Peggy" Ann Taylor

 

 

Margaret “Peggy” Rebhan Taylor of Hebron, KY, passed away on February 16th, 2014 at St. Charles Homestead in Ft. Wright, KY. She enjoyed donating her time and energy to the Easter Seals Organization.  She was also actively involved in the Northern Kentucky Horse Association and chaired many charity horseshows. 

 

She was preceded in death by her first husband Jack Quigley (1971), her parents, Albert (1982) and Margaret (1995) Rebhan and brother, Bill Rebhan (1994). 

 

Peggy is survived by her husband Robert Taylor of 38 years; sisters, Sr. Cormarie Rebhan, SND and Maura Schleper (Mike); brothers, Tom Rebhan and David Rebhan (Pam); 10 nieces and nephews; and 3 great nieces and nephews.

Claude Allen Grubbs

 

 

Claude Allen Grubbs, 75, of Ludlow, passed away on, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He was a retired, self employed truck driver. Claude was a member of the Sunday Morning Club and he loved hunting, fishing and watching sports, especially the UK Wildcats. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Grubbs; sisters, Betty Doan and Mary Gregory. Survivors include his brothers, Harold Grubbs of Erlanger, James Grubbs of Hebron, Charles Grubbs of Florence; sisters, Clara (Gerald) Doerman of Hebron, Norma Gillespie of Morrow, OH, and Glenna Bunton of Cincinnati, OH.

Wilbur A. “Buddy” Day, Jr.

 

 

Wilbur A. “Buddy” Day, Jr., 55, of Walton, KY, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence. He was an Optician with the Luxxottica Optical Company.  Buddy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ludlow. He enjoyed rebuilding motorcycles and cars and always took care of his family.   

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Jenny Ernest Day of Walton; sons, Ryan Day of Elsmere, Cameron Day of Walton and seven siblings.

Billy H. Thomas

Billy Thomas (nee Hicks), 95, of Ft. Mitchell, KY, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger, KY.  She was born Lucille Spalding Hicks on September 9, 1918 in Owenton, KY to the late George Logan Hicks and Ruby Spalding Hicks, but was known to all as Billy Thomas.  She was co-owner with her husband, Don, in Mrs. Thomas’ Candies.  Billy was very involved in her church, the Second Church of Christ Scientist, Clifton, OH as well as the Beechwood PTA.  She loved family gatherings and interacting with the grandchildren. 

 

Billy was preceded in death by her husband, Don Thomas (1991); daughter, Nancy Thomas Brown (2013); sister, Elsie Logan Hicks Pearse; and her great great granddaughter, Erianna Brown. 

 

Survivors include her son, Dick (Pam) Thomas of Plant City, FL; daughter, Patricia Thomas of Riverside, FL; son-in-law, Tom Brown of Dillsboro, IN; grandchildren, Christine Carter, Robin (Mike) Kondratko, Jill (Jim) Zigan, Bo Thomas, Tom (Christy) Brown, Mark (Bridgett) Brown, Pam (Dave) Weitzel; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; cousins, Wayne (Marilyn) Spalding and John Spalding.

Mary A. Hoyeler

Mary A. Hoyeler, 74, of Ludlow, passed away on January 28, 2014 at St. Elizabeth in Edgewood.  Mary was a retired Accountant.  She dedicated her life to work and her family. 

She is preceded by her husband, Robert F. Hoyeler (1977); parents, Richard and Sally Schmidt. 

Survivors include her son Jeff (Amber Molnar) Hoyeler of Ludlow; grandchild Jordyn Hoyeler and several nieces and nephews.

Fred Brooks

Fred William Brooks, 76, of Ludlow, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.  He retired as the owner of Ludlow Chevron and Auto Repair Company.  He previously owned Overhead Door Company in Covington and T & H Grocery in Bromley.  Upon his graduation from high school he was an employee for Hemmer Construction Company.  Fred was a member of St. Ann’s Church in West Covington and former member of Ludlow City Council. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmelita Brooks (2013).

Calista Gay Geise

 

Calista Gay Geise, 78, of Ludlow, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.  She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family.  Gay was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church and Alter Society.  In her youth she was a member and past queen of Jobs Daughter.  Gay took an active role in her children’s activities by being a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Ludlow High School PTA and Athletic Boosters, and an organizer of the Ludlow Buffalo Youth Football Program. 

Gay was preceded in death by her husband Paul D. Geise (1999)  

Survivors include her sons,  Phillip D. Geise of New Albany, IN, Charles E. Geise of Independence, C. Michael Geise of St. Paul, MN; daughters, Rebecca A. Aud of Philpot, KY, Patricia M. Bradley of Hillsboro, OR; sister, Joy (Charles) Miller of Cahokia, IL; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia Lee Griffis

Sylvia Lee Griffis, 92, of Erlanger, passed away on January 25, 2014 surrounded by family at her home.  Sylvia was a member of Roger’s GroveBaptistChurch in Monticello, KY.  While raising her children she owned and operated Ward and Sylvia’s Restaurant in Ludlow. Later in life she also owned and operated Rick’s Market in Elsmere from she retired in her 80’s.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ward Griffis (1991); daughters, Sue Johnson (2012), Billie Jean Kinser (2005); sons, Ricky Griffis (2001), Paul Griffis (2003), Jessie Griffis (1940).

Survivors include her son, Ward Lee (Jacki) Griffis of Loveland, OH; daughters, Peggy Anne Drohan of Erlanger, Mary E. Sims of Lenoir, NC, Judie Gaston of Erlanger, Rebecca (Oakley, Jr.) Crabtree of Somerset; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

John W. Godsey

John W. Godsey, 53, of Hebron, passed away on January 23, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Western Ridge.  He was self-employed in the Heat, Ventilation and Air Industry.  John was a hard worker.  He also was very compassionate to his neighbors, friends and family.  John loved spending time with his family camping, racing quads and riding motorcycles.  He also enjoyed playing video games, the guitar or harmonica with his grandchildren. John was a member of Howdy Boys Motorcycle Club and was an avid Nascar, UK, Bengals and Reds fan.

John is preceded in death by his parents Jack (1995) and Laverne (2007) Godsey.

Nancy Parton

Nancy L. Parton, 71 of Villa Hills, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital.  She was a retired preschool teacher of 38 years at the Sonshine School in Immanuel United Methodist Church.  She also worked for ten years at McAlpins Department Store as a sales associate.  Nancy had a vivacious personality that attracted people.  She was well liked by everyone and had countless friends.  Nancy was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She spent countless hours supporting her children especially at Dixie Heights High School in the Mom Group for the football team. 

Nancy is preceded in death by her son Jay Parton (5/1997).

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Jerry Parton of Villa Hills; daughters, Jill (Jeff) Baeten of Verona, Wendy (Butch) Butler of Atlanta, GA; son, Wes Parton of Florence; brother, Sonny (Debbie) Vielhuer of Newtown, OH; sister, Judy Low (Larry Adams) of Cincinnati, OH; and 7 grandchildren.

Sandra L. Smith of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Oak Pavilion Nursing Home in Cincinnati.  She was retired from Food Service at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.  Sandra devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur (1976) and Catherine J. Veatch (1994); sisters, Catherine Veatch (2003) and Mary Alice Hildebrandt (1981).

Sandra is survived by her daughter Leslie (Mark) Umbarger of Burlington; sons, James Hensley of Ft. Mitchell, Victor Hensley of Florence; brother, Norman (Monika) Veatch of Bellevue; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Billy Grooms

 

Billy Gerald Grooms, 78, beloved husband of Mary June Grooms, father of William Jay Grooms of Frankfort, brother of Carl (Rita) Grooms of Louisville, brother-in-law of Anna Mae Carver of Owenton, uncle of John Grooms, Teena Gamble and Debbie Sigretto, passed peacefully on January 22, 2014 at St. Elizabeth in Edgewood.  Bill earned his B.S. from Eastern Kentucky University and a MA from Xavier University.  He did post graduate work at the University of Kentucky and at Eastern Kentucky University.  Bill taught English, Biology and coached swimming at Senn High School in Chicago.  He also taught English, Biology and coached basketball and football at Ludlow Independent Schools.  He held administrative positions at the Northern Kentucky Technical School.  After spending 28 years in in the education field, Bill joined state government in Frankfort where he was Director of Job Service and Special Programs Division and moved to the new division of Training and Employment.  He spent two years in the United States Army in Europe, where he was assigned to the Surgeon General’s Office.  

He was a member of Immanuel Methodist Church in Lakeside Park where services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to the hour of service at 1:00PM. 

Interment in Owenton Memorial Cemetery, Owenton, KY.

John Whalen

 

John R. Whalen, 74, of Ft. Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.   He was a retired National Accounts Manager with Duro Paper Bag.  John was a member of Mother of God Church in Covington, owner of Whalen Classic Car Company, an avid classic car collector and was very proud of his collection, and loved spending time with family and grandchildren.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marian Whalen, daughters, Melissa Whalen and Michelle Mockbee.

Thomas Tomlinson

 

Thomas R. Tomlinson, 76, of Crescent Springs, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.  He was a retired Carpenter and member of Carpenters Local Union #2.  Tom was a member of First Baptist Church in Ludlow and Colonel Clay #159 Masonic Lodge.  He loved to golf and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.  

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy Tomlinson of Crescent Springs; son, Andy Tomlinson (Stephanie) of Hebron; daughter, Dawn Ellen Tomlinson (Terry Sawyer) of Verona; brothers, Robert Tomlinson (Tootie) of Drummond Island, MI, Ray Tomlinson (Pat) of Owenton; sister, Ann Henson of Englewood, OH; grandchildren, Lauren, Dustin, Macy, Drew; and great grandchild, Jasmine.

Anna Mae Neace

 

Anna Mae “Ann” Neace, 73, of Covington, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.  She was a retired Teacher’s Assistant for Covington Independent Schools.  Ann was a member of House of Deliverance Church in Newport. She was an avid Holmes High School sports and band supporter and a Kentucky Colonel.  Ann gave to everyone before herself and she loved the children whom she taught. 

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Devin Lauren Drahman.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 52 years, Luther Neace of Covington; daughters, Kim Drahman (Jimmy) of Independence, Karen Dahms (Mark) of Covington, Kelli Neace of Newport; sisters, Phyllis Gall (Ron) of Nashville, TN, Janet Traylor of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Penny L. Hellebush (nee: Hammonds) 58, of Covington, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2014.  She was born May 22, 1955 in Covington, Kentucky to parents Marion and Lucille Hammonds of Ludlow, Kentucky who proceeded her in death.  She leaves her husband of 38 years, Gary Hellebush and a brother David M. Hammonds (Charlene) of Trenton, Ohio, brother-in-law Paul Hellebush and sister-in-laws Connie Ramos and Linda Haynes along with many nieces and nephews.  Penny worked as an Insurance Agent for many years and enjoyed cooking, camping and her animal friends.  She was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church in Ludlow.

Richard R. "Rich" Hartman

 

Richard R. “Rich” Hartman of Southgate, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He worked as a driver for Duro Paper Bag Company.  Rich was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles – Aerie 280, a Drum and Bugle Corps enthusiast, and loved spending time with family, especially his three grandchildren.

Jerry Deakins

 

 

Jerry David Deakins, 64, of Harrison, OH, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Mercy Health Hospital in Cincinnati.  He was a retired truck driver for Dawn Trucking.  Jerry proudly served our county in the U.S. Army.  He was a VFW Post 2750 Sr. Vice Commander (2012-2013) in Mitchell, SD. Jerry loved drag racing, fast cars and especially his family. 

 

He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Deakins, Sr. (2007).

Daniel Joseph Gardiner

 

 

Daniel Joseph Gardiner, 66, of Bromley, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013at his residence. He was a retired Underwriting Consultant for Western Southern Life Insurance Company.  Dan served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a member of Sts. Boniface & James Church in Ludlow, Bromley Vets, and former member of the Bromley Fire Department.  Dan was a Kentucky Colonel and longtime Bromley councilman. He loved the Cincinnati Reds, horseracing and golfing.  Dan had a great sense of humor and loved his family very much.  Survivors include his loving wife, Janet Gardiner; sons, Rob (Candy) Gardiner, Jeff (Dawn) Gardiner; daughters, Donna (Chuck) Patton, Mandi (Chris) Moore; sister Patricia (Bob) France; grandchildren, Kayla (Brett) Herald, Doug, Jordan, Madison, Rae, Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly, including Eric France, also of Bromley.

Janice L. Houp, 75, of Ludlow, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  She was a retired Office Assistant for Advantage Advertising Co. Janice loved college basketball, especially U.K., The Cincinnati Reds and playing cards.

Audrey Carroll

 

 

Audrey Mae Carroll, age 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Bromley, KY, on December 29, 2013.  She was born on July 5, 1934, near Ewing (Lee County), Virginia to William Barnett and Lizzie Thomas Barnett Elam.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Vernon Carroll, Sr., who operated the Kentucky Speedcenter in Covington for many years and later operated Carroll’s Tree Service.

 

She was also preceded in death by her son Vernon “Ray” Carroll, Jr., her brother, Alvis Gene Barnett, and great-grandson Joshua Ryan Hunt.

 

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her daughters, Sheila Carroll Lowther (Charles) of Georgetown, KY and Vickie Carroll Hunt (Charles) of Bromley, KY. 

 

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Joshua Hunt (Brook), Carrie Hunt Vaughn (Michael), Andrew Hunt (Bonnie), Daniel Hunt (Alissa), Clara Lowther (Ryan Sipes), and Joseph Lowther.  She also leaves sixteen great-grandchildren and three nephews.

Gene Hellebush

 

 

Gene Paul Hellebush, 74, of Ludlow, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.  He was a retired Ramp Serviceman for TWA.  Gene proudly served our country in the US. Marine Corps.  He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow serving as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Choir member.  He was a youth baseball coach who loved sports and he was a musician who could play any instrument.  Gene also loved his family very much, especially his nieces and nephews to whom he was more than just an uncle. 

 

Gene was preceded in death by his father, William Hellebush; mother, Martha Henson Hellebush; brother, Earl Hellebush and sister, June Phillips. 

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Maxine Hellebush; brother, Claude Hellebush and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Visitation is Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 10:00 AM to the hour of service at 1:00 PM all at First Baptist Church in Ludlow.

Virginia Alley Estep

 

 

Virginia Alley Estep, 91, of Covington, died peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Emeritus in Edgewood.  She was a member of Community Family Church of Independence, Kentucky.  Born in Covington in 1922, she was the daughter of James William and Anna Laura Marksberry. Her love of family was apparent whenever you were in her presence. 

 

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Estep (2008) and son, Billy Gene Estep (2003). 

 

She is survived by her son, James Estep of Covington; sisters, Jewell Phelps (Donald), Violet Solomon (Thomas), and brothers, Lawrence Marksberry (Cathy) and Leslie Marksberry (Mary); grandchildren, Kenny Estep, Nichole Brandy Estep, Cody Estep; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and Sylas Estep and three great-great grandchildren.

Edward Walter Lewis, 67, of Erlanger, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his residence.  He was retired after 37 years in Food Service.  Ed was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bromley.  He was a former Erlanger Lions football volunteer and he loved playing cards.  

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lewis (1986).

Virgil Souder

Virgil Keith Souder, 81, of Hebron, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013.  He was a retired pilot and a current deck hand for Anderson Ferry.  Virgil served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Constance Christian Church and former member of the Hebron Fire Department.  Virgil loved his family especially his two grandsons. 

Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Norene Souder (nee Joseph) of Hebron; son, Herb Souder of Hebron; daughter, Margaret McHendrix of Erlanger; and grandchildren, Jon and Joe McHendrix.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Combs (2013).

George "Don" Powell

 

 

George "Don" Powell, 91, of Bromley, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his residence. He was the retired manager of Carew Tower Garage.  Don served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.  He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and the Bromley Vets. He loved horse racing, UK football and cooking.  

 

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Powell (2008). 

 

Survivors include his son, Donald C.  Powell (Paula) of Union; daughters, Cheryl Fleck (Bill) of Villa Hills, Laurie Dorning (Mike) of Hebron; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Floyd Daniel

 

 

Floyd Eugene Daniel, 67, of Ludlow, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his residence.  He was a computer technician with General Electric in Cincinnati. 

 

Floyd was a proud member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era where he served on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Shangri-La.  

 

Floyd was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, the Newport Elks Lodge #273 – B.P.O.E of Cold Spring and was a past president of the Ludlow/Bromley Swim club.  He was an avid golfer and bowler.  He had a hole-in-one and a 300 bowling ring.  Floyd enjoyed playing Santa for many fire departments, personal friends and daycares. 

 

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Timothy Scott (2009). 

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Daniel of Ludlow; daughters, Lori Mullins of Newport, Cindy Alexander of Ludlow, Erin Penn of Bethel, OH; son, Eric Daniel of Ludlow; brothers, James Daniel, Jr. of Villages, FL, Timothy Daniel of West Union, OH, David Daniel of Bellevue, Michael Daniel of Independence; sisters, Barbara Davis of Cold Spring, Jayne Whitehead of Newport; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

John "Steve" Klei

 

 

John “Steve” Klei, 55, of Edgewood passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.  He was a Manager for O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and his former employer Saybrook Imports.  Steve was the proud parent of Corey and Justin and loved watching his boys participate in their activities.  He was an avid Bengals and University of Kentucky fan.  Steve also enjoyed spending time with his family camping. 

 

Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Klei.

Sue Goderwis

 

 

Sue D. Goderwis, 82, of Covington, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Bayley Place in Cincinnati.  She was a loving mother and wife who spent much of her time volunteering at Mother of God Church in Covington.  

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Goderwis (2002); daughter, Diana Dunham; sisters, Dorothy Dressman, Ann Theil; and brother, Rev. Bob Dressman.

Adron D. Rice

 

 

Adron D. Rice, 89, of Hebron, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Highlandspring in Ft. Thomas.  He was an electrician for Mayers Electric Company in Cincinnati.

He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII.

Adron was a member of First Baptist Church in Ludlow, a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #212, former member of Ludlow Band Boosters, Ludlow PTA, and Ludlow Park Board. He also helped with putting in lights for the Baseball Fields in Ludlow’s Park. 

Adron is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Rice of Ft. Wright; daughter, Julia Rice of Hebron; son, Ronald “Ron” (Karen) Rice of Grove City, OH; sister, Rachel Arnold of Osage Beach, MO; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Thomas W. O’Brien, 90, of Ludlow, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.  Tom served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific.  He retired as a Clerk from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 40 years of service.

Charles L. "Dumpy" Roaden

 

 

Charles L. “Dumpy” Roaden, 72, of Ludlow, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.  He retired from the Kroger Company after 35 years. Dumpy was an avid gardener who enjoyed maintaining the garden on the river bank in Ludlow.  He also loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren.

 Anna "Mary" Faulconer

 

 

Anna “Mary” Faulconer, 97, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Ft. Thomas.  She retired from Kenton County Schools after 28 years as an Elementary School Teacher.  Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ludlow.  She dedicated her life to the church where Mary was the second oldest active member and taught a Sunday school class called Mary's Girls until recently.

 

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Laban Faulconer ( 11-3-1997); sister, Nell Nacke; and brother, Henry Coakley.

 

Survivors include her sister, Ruth Welsh of Louisville; nieces and nephews; Dottie “Debbie” Wernke of Union, Brigette Clabough (Russ) of Florence, Brett Baker of Independence, Brian Baker of Union, Fred Coakley (Betty Carol) of Versailles, Betty Ann Davenport of Danville;  great nieces and nephews, and; several great-great nieces and nephews.
